Cheap Thrills Album Cover T-shirts

Cheap Thrills Cover by R. Crumb, 1968

In celebration of the birthdays of both Janis Joplin, and her Big Brother and The Holding Company band mate drummer Dave Getz this week, all of our Cheap Thrills Album Cover t-shirts and hooded sweatshirts for Men and Women are on sale.

This amazing album cover drawn by Robert Crumb in 1968 went on to become one of the Top 100 Albums Covers of all time according to Rolling Stone Magazine. Columbia Records had proposed a different cover which the band was not thrilled with, enter R. Crumb underground cartoonist and fellow Haight- Ashbury counter-culture resident to the rescue. Originally planned for the back cover the band loved it so much they made it the front of the album.

Each cell of the album cover depicts a different song from the album, which is packed with classics like Ball and Chain, Summer Time, Cry Baby, I Need A Man to Love, Piece of my Heart and Combination of the Two. Cheap Thrills is considered some of the finest work of Janis Joplin's all too brief career. Many of these hits are being re-born on the New York stage in the new production "A Night with Janis Joplin".

Countdown to Halloween!

Only 7 Days till Fright Night, and we are counting down each day with a scary R. Crumb cover from "Weirdo" comics.

Today's cover is Weirdo No. 8 illustrated by Robert Crumb in the summer of 1983. At that time Crumb was also the editor of the comic anthology which was published by Last Gasp.

The subject appears to be on his last nerve.
Enjoy!

Janis Joplin "Ball & Chain" T-shirts on Sale Now!

Ball and Chain was written and originally recorded by American blues songstress Willie Mae Thornton aka Big Mama. Janis Joplin who frequently paid homage to Thornton as one of her musical influences later went on to record several live versions of the twelve-bar blues song. Janis was backed by Big Brother & The Holding Company band mates, and this gutzy rendition of the classic was heralded as one of Joplin's best performances of her all to short career.

Now part of our Cheap Thrills T-shirt collection. The Ball & Chain image was pulled from the "Cheap Thrills" album cover done in 1968 by R. Crumb. And this week you'll find all our Ball & Chain blues t-shirts on Sale, Now through 10-13-13.
