Cheap Thrills Cover by R. Crumb, 1968

This amazing album cover drawn by Robert Crumb in 1968 went on to become one of the Top 100 Albums Covers of all time according to Rolling Stone Magazine. Columbia Records had proposed a different cover which the band was not thrilled with, enter R. Crumb underground cartoonist and fellow Haight- Ashbury counter-culture resident to the rescue. Originally planned for the back cover the band loved it so much they made it the front of the album.

Each cell of the album cover depicts a different song from the album, which is packed with classics like Ball and Chain, Summer Time, Cry Baby, I Need A Man to Love, Piece of my Heart and Combination of the Two. Cheap Thrills is considered some of the finest work of Janis Joplin's all too brief career. Many of these hits are being re-born on the New York stage in the new production "A Night with Janis Joplin".
